Hemophilia Treatment Centers

Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) are specialized centers that bring together a team of doctors, nurses, and other health professionals experienced in treating people with hemophilia.

HTCs provide access to multidisciplinary health care professionals with comprehensive care, meaning their medical team of experts can guide you and connect the dots of your various care needs. While they can help with your specific bleeding disorder related needs, they often also have social workers and psychologists to help with your mental health needs as well.

HTCs can have a variety of experts to meet your needs, including a: Hematologist, Dentist, Nurse, Physical Therapist, Psychologist, Social Worker, Primary Care Physician, and Pediatrician.

HTCs By The Numbers

According to studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • People with hemophilia are 40% less likely to be hospitalized for bleeding complications if they use HTCs rather than receiving care elsewhere.
  • Those who use HTCs are 40% less likely to die of hemophilia complications.

In New England, there are 11 HTCs spread out across the region, including four in Massachusetts, three in Connecticut, and one in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Given the vast territory and rural population, especially in Northern New England, some patients may cross state lines to get to the nearest Hemophilia Treatment Center.

Below is a list of the HTCs in each state, with their contact information and a list of key staff members who treat bleeding disorders patients. Need help connecting with an HTC? Contact us.
