New Federal Rule Strengthening Protections Against Discrimination

New Federal Rule Strengthening Protections Against Discrimination

On May 10, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a new rule to finally clarify that medical providers (including behavioral health facilities) cannot deny access to patients based solely on the presence of a diagnosis, such as a bleeding disorder!

This comes after tireless effort of the Bleeding Disorders Substance Use & Mental Health Access Coalition (BD SUMHAC) and former NEHA Board Member, Kate Bazinsky, who is the Coalition’s Chair.

Kate and other coalition members have spent the past three years submitting comments and testimony, making our community members’ stories heard, and asking lawmakers for their help in order to enact these changes.
